Unmaking Individualism: Antiuniversity, MayDay Rooms, London, 2023

How are we socially conditioned to function in ways that prioritise our individual interests, and how could adopting different approaches to the physical act of making help us ‘unmake’ this predisposition to individualism?

Unmaking Individualism is a practical and discursive workshop that uses the creation of hand sewn samples to interrogate the politics of collaborative production, to confront and challenge subconscious feelings of ownership and control, and to consider what comes next.

Practical experiments in fabric will generate group debate and reflection, followed by a short visual presentation further exploring the relationships between making, creative community building and resisting the pull towards social reproduction.

No experience is required for this workshop as participants can engage at any level, in line with their existing skills and interest.
